Overview

The 2006 Classic Topsail Schooner NAEMA is a replica of the famous Alfred Milne design, PANDA, re-created with authentic Sitka spruce spars and proper schooner rigging, but with modern sail handling systems and electric winches to minimize the ‘heavy lifting’ in sailing this magnificent classic. Her steel hull was built in 2006 by Graafship in Holland to Lloyds scantlings and she was finished by the German yard, Metrica. She was fully refitted in 2015 by Hodgdon Yachts of Boothbay, Maine, including all electrical and mechanical systems.

Although NAEMA is classic to all appearances, she has been engineered to deliver all amenities for gracious living aboard in port or far at sea. Her elegantly varnished pilothouse creates protection for the helm and guest cockpit, which offers seating for up to 10 around the varnished teak drop leaf dining table.

Her deck salon adjoins the guest cockpit forward, offering full protection and 360-degree unobstructed visibility. There is a serving area to starboard with refrigeration, a full sink, cabinetry and plenty of storage. Across to port is the day head. Soft leather L-shaped settees with tables are elevated, port and starboard, with the comprehensively equipped navigation station forward to port and an additional office area forward to starboard.

A elegantly detailed curved staircase forward leads down to the main salon, dining and accommodation area. Varnished anigre cabin soles compliment the raised panel mahogany woodwork, accented by full-height hand-crafted leaded glass panels with scallops embedded in the design. In short, the interior décor is traditionally stunning and tasteful to the extreme.

NAEMA’s main salon and dining area are full-width with opening portlights and a large skylight at the center for a steady flow of natural light and ventilation. The dining area is starboard with rolled and pleated leather upholstery on the U-shaped seating surrounding the large dining table. The U-shaped entertaining area is to port with sumptuous seating and a retractable media screen at the center.

The master stateroom is to starboard, with a king-size berth outboard, large stowage locker forward with bureau below, additional cabinet storage aft and outboard with a hanging locker as well. An abundance of natural and light and ventilation is supplied via portlights outboard and the opening skylight above. The master head is detailed with a marble top vanity and under-mounted sink, full stall shower, beveled mirrors and additional cabinetry.

The port guest stateroom has wide single and double berths, with a large Pullman berth outboard, opening port and skylight and an abundance of stowage in drawers, lockers and hanging locker, along with an en-suite head with detailing similar to the master. The second guest stateroom is aft to port, also with a double berth and Pullman above, with detailing and en-suite head to match the others.

The Captain’s cabin is fully aft to starboard, with a queen-size berth, plenty of storage in drawers and lockers, and an en-suite head and shower.

Crew quarters are forward, including three cabins with two bunk beds each, with ample storage, a U-shaped crew lounge with a convertible dinette and a full gourmet galley, including SS counter tops and molded sinks, full height stainless refrigerator and freezer by Gram on the forward bulkhead alongside full height washer/dryer by Miele. The centerline island houses the Bohnhoff professional dishwasher with additional storage forward and the aft bulkhead supports the Bosch electric range and oven, plus additional stowage and countertops.
